Australia’s first Apple Store is being built and it is causing a stir with local citizens and architects. According to the proposal, the new Apple Store location will require the demolition of buildings and historical areas of Melbourne’s Federation Square, a cultural space that is beloved by the community. Melbourne city councillor Rohan Leppert, described the proposed Apple store as “radically different architecture” that “converts cultural space to commercial.” Despite the backlash, the construction on the new Apple Store is set to begin in mid-2019.
