Building a Better Bond, Part 2

+ more

When Claud Walker founded Fibrebond in 1982 he set out to build a company that was more than just a manufacturer of dependable products. People are at the center of any successful business and he knew that.

Ike Nwaogbo is indicative of the type of family Walker wanted to build at his company. Nwaogbo came to the United States from Nigeria and has ascended to a key role as a senior electrical engineer at Fibrebond.

He originally did not intend to come to this country for school but a sudden strike by the Nigerian Union of Teachers forced him to evaluate other options.

His introduction to America came at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana where he received both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA. Now in his 12th year at Fibrebond, Nwaogbo continues to find reward and fulfillment in his career.

“The upbringing at home shaped me into the man I am right now. Growing up, they drilled that into us that you need to be dedicated in what you do, you need to put in your all.”

Nwaogbo has been developing a professional family in Louisiana for the last decade but his Nigerian roots are still a part of his life that he cherishes. His parents and siblings still live in the West African nation and he makes sure to stay in contact often.

“With technology now it is easier to FaceTime or get on the phone and call,” he said. “I talk to my folks almost every weekend and I also go home at least once a year.”

Soccer has also stuck with Nwaogbo, which he says has helped him personally and professionally.

“Soccer creates that bond between you and your friends. Playing soccer, with the teamwork, has definitely transpired into my work life and the way I interact with my coworkers,” Nwaogbo noted.

Teammates laud Nwaogbo’s dependability and sense of calm, which has helped build a better bond at the company.
