Job Summary:

The R&D Director role plans and manages all product development activity across the company’s multitude of products. The role requires a high level of collaboration and soft skills in order to effectively lead and motivate discrete teams of developers in both legacy as well as modern technology stacks.

The R&D Director role plans and manages all product development activity across the company’s multitude of products. The role requires a high level of collaboration and soft skills in order to effectively lead and motivate discrete teams of developers in both legacy as well as modern technology stacks.

Manages and directs research and development (R&D) resources and processes to meet the organizational needs of the business, including both enhancement and maintenance of existing products as well as the development and deployment of new solutions.
Ensures that client-funded enhancements are delivered within scope and budget, in collaboration with client-facing teams.
Monitors and manages the queue of maintenance requests / bugs to ensure that clients experience a high level of satisfaction and reliability, in collaboration with Client Success Director.
Works closely with the Head of Product to scope new solutions, to make recommendations on approach and technology, and to deliver within scope and budget.
Monitors and manages efficiency and quality of output from the R&D group, while ensuring that all development teams have clear succession plans and limited ‘key-man’ risk.
Directs technology decisions in partnership with Cultura architect or external expert sources, in order to manage the technology debt of the Company’s product portfolio.
Nurtures and manages a pool of external contract resources in order to ramp up bandwidth on technology projects as required.
Maintains internal R&D tools, and constantly explores options to optimize internal efficiency and utilization of industry best practices and toolsets.
Provides visibility to General Manager as well as the Management team on the status of development projects, maintenance bug queue and utilization / resource planning of the development queue of work.
Presents technology roadmap and relevant technology topics in front of clients and at industry events in order to reinforce the Company’s market position as a technology innovator.
Job Qualifications

7+ years of experience with managing software development teams comprised of senior developers and architects
Experience with software development and delivery within agribusiness or another vertical market is preferred
Demonstrated results with leading teams engaged in development on both legacy applications as well as modern web/mobile applications
Excellent soft skills and presentation skills aimed at non-technical executive audience
Proven ability to build and manage outsourced development teams blended with in-house resources
Credible experience with deploying software development best practices and driving change management within technology teams
