While students may be early adopters of monetizing YouTube, binge streaming their TV shows and Snapchatting their latest existential crisis, they are also integrating video usage in their studies at all educational levels. According to a recent report from video software company, Kaltura, video is used both for in-class and remote instruction by 73% of universities. 85% of instructors and administrators believe that video usage leads to more student achievement and overall higher satisfaction. The report also shows that 62% of universities are using video in assignments, while 60% are teaching skills through video recordings in class. Although video content creation has become exponentially more simple with the advancements in mobile device capabilities, institutions surveyed report that less than 10% of students create videos as part of their class work. These numbers appear to be trending upward, though, as students begin to see video as simply an additional way to communicate.
