Richard Liu, founder of Chinese e-commerce comapny JD.com, said human employees will be completely removed from stores in a number of years. With retailers moving closer to full-automation, Liu suggests in close to ten years the industry will be operated by artificial intelligence.

Liu believes cost reduction and an improved customer experience will drive comapnies to automate but the technology is just not ready yet.
