The workplace is an ever-evolving institution, and the changes are always closely linked to various aspects of modern culture. With technology influencing contemporary life, it is bound to also affect how people work. One category of technology that is poised to revolutionize office culture is Pro AV. These applications are making jobs easier, faster, and more in tune with how people want to live and work.
One example is digital signage. Communication is the foundation of any good relationship, and the same is true for connecting with professional colleagues. Email is still useful, but digital signage has the benefit of omnipresence without the clutter of dozens of other messages distracting us. Priority messages can easily be displayed via office signage, and what’s more, a variety of content can be shared, meeting a company’s unique and diverse needs while staying fresh and relevant.
Another method of communication that is set to take off in 2019 is the smart board. Made popular in the college classroom, these devices are not just for professors anymore. They make communication collaborative, a concept heavily intrenched in 2019 work behavior. Providing mobile connectivity and open cross-communication, the smart board can help make sure everyone is on the same page. Sharing is facilitated with the smart board, and confusion can be ameliorated on the spot in group meetings.
While these visual elements are taking off in the workplace, the audio side of things is critical as well. Workers increasingly expect clear and varied audio experiences that are relevant to their roles in the company.
But why is AV so big in today’s workplace? In part, it is because necessity has remained the mother of invention, and millennials’ works needs are different from those of Gen X. These needs are impacting office design, and AV companies are creating products to meet the expectations of current and future workers.
Mobility is crucial to today’s employees. It is estimated that 33 percent of knowledge workers in both private and public sectors are working away from their desks at any given time. And people are not just working from home. They are busy performing tasks in hotel rooms, on planes or in airports, off-site with business partners and clients, and at conventions and trade shows. They need to be supported with technology and business processes that allow them to work effectively wherever they are. Today’s younger employees increasingly need the flexibility that innovative AV devices provide. This can include the option to work from home as well as access to dynamic workplaces with options for performing tasks at ‘stations’ throughout the space, allowing for the high level of activity and co-worker engagement on which this generation thrives.
In addition, regarding future workers and technology, according to Matt Pruznick of AV Network, Gen Z, set to hit the workplace in less than a decade, will bring with them an “intimate familiarity with all things electronic,” which “should translate into greater utilization of facilities’ smart infrastructures,” meaning all this tech innovation in the AV sector is on the right track.
