Listen: Breathing New Life Into an Old Arena with Woody Carter of HyVee Arena

Former Harlem Legend Woody Carter is ready to try out the courts at Kansas City’s repurposed HyVee Arena. “I can’t wait till that gloss and stain goes down on the maple wood floor,” said Carter, who is arena sales manager for the $39 million youth sports complex. In this episode of the Sports and Entertainment Podcast, we talked to Carter about the coming HyVee Arena grand opening in a few months and discuss how this one-of-a-kind adaptive reuse project can transform both commercial real estate and the community.

HyVee was once the aging one-floor Kemper Arena built in 1974, but with the adaptive addition of a second floor, it’s now a sprawling 84,000-square-foot sports and event space that’ll host basketball, soccer, fusbol, pickleball and training facilities.
