For years car safety has been about adding airbags, brakes and sensors. Now that is all changing because of 5G technology.

Manufacturers are using software to constantly upgrade automobiles even after they have been purchased and much like a smart phone, drivers will be able to see updated maps and other service improvements.

“These vehicles are going to be an extension of us,” Jack Hollis, Group VP and General Manager for Toyota said.

Safety might be the most transformative improvement 5G can provide drivers, but voice commands.

MarketScale talked to representatives at several of the biggest name brands in the industry to see how they are using 5G in their models and what they see in the future of the car software relationship.
