Procore Technologies has agreed to acquire DroneDeploy, a reality capture and aerial intelligence platform used across construction, energy, and infrastructure jobsites, for $845 million, according to Engineering News-Record. The deal is among the largest in construction technology and represents a direct push by Procore to bring site-level visual data inside its project management platform rather than leaving it to third-party integrations.

What Procore is actually buying

DroneDeploy processes drone-captured imagery into 3D models, orthomosaic maps, progress photos, and inspection reports. Those outputs have become standard site intelligence tools for general contractors and owners tracking work-in-place, monitoring safety conditions, and resolving disputes about what was built and when.

The platform connects to a range of commercial drone hardware and supports ground-level capture as well, making it a broader reality capture system rather than a purely aerial one. For Procore, that means the acquisition adds not just drone data but a full visual documentation layer that covers multiple capture methods.

Procore's existing platform handles the administrative and financial spine of a construction project: submittals, RFIs, change orders, schedules, and budgets. DroneDeploy adds the spatial and visual layer. The combination means a project manager could, in theory, move from a flagged inspection issue in a drone scan to an RFI or punch item without leaving the platform.

A $845M bet on reality capture is Procore's clearest signal yet that the construction platform wars will be won or lost on site data, not just back-office workflow.

Consolidation pressure on the construction tech stack

That analytical layer is arguably the more durable strategic asset than the capture hardware itself. Drones are commoditizing fast; the models trained on millions of square feet of jobsite imagery are not.
