Listen: Ricketts Family Makes USL Acquisition

Chicago Cubs fans are getting something new to cheer in 2020.

The Ricketts family is in the process of acquiring controlling rights to the Chicago USL expansion franchise, scheduled to debut in 2020.

The new entity, which will be known as North Side Entertainment Holdings, will receive all game-day revenue from the new stadium, scheduled to be constructed as part of a 70-acre riverfront mixed-use development in the Lincoln Park and Bucktown neighborhoods.

There are additional cross-promotional opportunities with the Cubs, as well, including the potential for a yearly USL match at Wrigley Field. The potential Cubs TV network could also be a possible point of broadcast, once the current broadcast agreements expire in 2019.

This new USL franchise could also be an opportunity for the over 100,000 fans on the Cubs’ season ticket waiting list, to have another team to cheer for on the North Side.
