Russian Athletes Appeal Their Doping Ban for 2018 Winter Olympics

Following a ban from the IOC on the basis of doping in the 2014 Winter Olympics, 22 Russian athletes have appealed the decision. The IOC instituted the ban after a 2016 report from McLaren that detailed a doping program sponsored by the Russian government. Russian athletes may still go for gold provided they pass a doping test and compete neutrally, not for their home country. The athletes are hoping the appeal will be decided before the games begin in February 2018.
