How Have Home Intelligence and Automated Shading Solutions Improved Home Energy Efficiency and Comfort?

On today’s episode of the Draper at Home Podcast, host Michelle Dawn Mooney, speaks with Scotty Allen, the Chief Operating Officer of Josh.ai, Maryellen Oswald, Custom Integration & Partnerships Channel Manager, Somfy USA, and Tyson McDonald, Director of Business Development, Motorized Solar Solutions for Draper, Inc., to talk about how the effect of home intelligence has changed the way spaces are designed, and how they function. The three discussed:

  1. Home intelligence and automated shading solutions
  2. The recently completed Josh.ai headquarters
  3. How better shading can impact a business or home

Home intelligence and automated shading solutions are both technologies that can improve a home or office’s functionality, security, and energy efficiency. These technologies can be integrated and controlled through a central interface, such as a smart home app, to provide homeowners with an automated and convenient living experience. Incorporating these technologies can help homeowners better control their home’s energy consumption, security, and comfort.

Home automation systems like Josh.AI provide numerous advantages, including ease of use, energy conservation, augmented safety, and customization. They allow controlling various aspects of a home with voice commands or through a mobile app. Other automated shading solutions include motorized shades, which can be controlled remotely and scheduled to open and close according to the time of day or the position of the sun, and intelligent window films that can be installed on existing windows to adjust the amount of light and heat passing through the window.

Battery shades, also known as cordless shades, are window treatments powered by batteries. They have advantages such as safety, convenience, aesthetics, and ease of installation. The lack of cords can create a cleaner and more streamlined look for the window treatment.

Advancements in battery technology include increased energy density, battery management systems, the development of Lithium-ion batteries, and wireless charging. This technology allows the battery to be charged without the need for physical connections, which is helpful for battery shades that are hard to reach.
