Sumpless Pump System: Reduce Floor Space Requirements

Sumps, which are pits or underground tanks used to collect water, have long been the traditional method of collecting wastewater, but they’re far from effective. Not only are they financially inefficient, sumps leave businesses vulnerable to worker safety risks, such as wet floors — not to mention the pungently unpleasant odor of wastewater, as well as requiring excess floor space.

Failing Sumps Lead to Wastewater Spills

Sumps should work to remove water that has accumulated in a water-collecting basin, but when they fail, the water must go somewhere—unfortunately, it’s typically funneled into our water sources. According to a U.S. News & World Report article, in 2017, an equipment failure at a Seattle plant dumped over 30 million gallons of sewage into Puget Sound. These types of spills have health, environmental, and monetary consequences. The truth is that sumps can fail and lead to wastewater spills.

How Sumpless Collection Works

DMP Corporation offers a sumpless solution, the first of its kind. Using sensors that determine when it’s time for the water to be pumped to a holding tank for treatment, the DMP system retains wastewater in a pipe that keeps the area under wet process relatively dry, thereby reducing odor and safety concerns while offering tremendous cost savings. Because waste is collected as it’s generated, the need for pits or underground tanks is eliminated. DMP’s sumpless solution also offers the option for automated waste segregation, with sensors (ph, conductivity, etc.). The trench with pipe can qualify as secondary containment too.

Sumpless Works as a Retrofit

DMP connects dual in-line pumps to manifolds, transferring the waste directly to the rinse water or spent solution tanks which are fitted with automatic control valves. Not only does this remove the need for sumps, it avoids RCRA mandated double containment. And because DMP’s sumpless collection connects easily to existing process piping headers, businesses will not incur added expenses to make the switch. And proper sizing at installation ensures long-term, hassle-free operation.

Rely on DMP for Sumpless Collection

Often ineffective and costly, sumps have been used for years in the wastewater treatment ecosystem. Offering many benefits, sumpless wastewater treatment is a new way to take on an old problem. The DMP solution pioneers this new approach at automating wastewater, saving organizations money while reducing the floor space requirement, eliminating safety hazards, and reducing fetid odors.
