Are You Ready to Use LED Video Walls as Wallpaper in the Future?
As stunning LED technology is repurposed for the consumer side and even the home, the question becomes: will an entire wall ever become a screen? After all, who wouldn’t want LED wallpaper?
“If you have the money, you could do it today,” explains Jason Young, Senior Channel Technical Manager at Samsung. The problem that you would face is the distance you have to stand from the wall to get the full effect of any images displayed onscreen.
“With the direct view LED, we start talking pixel pitch,” Young says. Six to seven feet is a good distance as far as viewing for most LED screens. If you’re back 10 feet, it looks perfect. “If you’re standing right in front of 1.5 millimeter pixel pitch, you can make out the image. If you’re four or five feet away, it’s stunning.”
Looking at the next few years, designers will able to use this as an option to make a space more unique or interactive.
“There’s a new theater in Salt Lake City, Utah that is utilizing direct view LED cabinets around the entire theater as part of the experience during a show,” Young says. “The content that plays on these screens wraps the entire theater and brings a whole new element to the experience.” For industries that are uncertain of how to adapt to emerging technologies such as VR and Augemented Reality this is a very viable option.
