General Mills Launches Clean Label Baking Products with No Artificial Flavors or Colors

When it comes to food, there’s no concept hotter right now than “clean.” A recent survey from the International Food Information Council (IFIC), reported 61 percent of consumers say recognizing ingredients on packaged foods is important to their purchase decision. General Mills is the latest brand to respond to consumer demand for baked items made with simpler ingredients. The Minneapolis-based food company is launching a line of baking products with no artificial flavors or colors from artificial sources. This line, which includes bread, biscuit, brownie, cake and muffin mixes as well as frozen foods, will appear in stores under its Gold Medal and Pillsbury brands. Some of the items are available now; some—including the Gold Medal mixes—will be in stores by June 2018.
The products are not just for the home baker. They were designed to help food service operations and restaurants meet demand for baked goods free from artificial ingredients. The launch of this product line will be accompanied by redesigned packaging heralding the changes inside. General Mills says the new formulations will meet consumers’ high expectations for great taste and consistency.
