Virtual Nursing: Combating Burnout, Transforming Care

Panda Health Reveals the Increasing Adoption and Substantial Return on Investment of Virtual Nursing.

Addressing nurse labor shortages and burnout, virtual nursing leads to enhanced patient satisfaction and improved workload balance.

DATELINE – Amid the ongoing national nursing shortage, healthcare organizations across the country are exploring innovative care models to improve patient care and staff satisfaction. Panda Health’s recent survey unveils the rising interest and potential return on investment (ROI) of leveraging virtual nursing.

According to the conversations held with health system leaders, the focus areas while considering virtual nursing widely varied. Some expressed interest in the hardware aspects and advanced AV capabilities, while others showed curiosity for the software platform. However, common grounds were found in striving to increase nurse satisfaction by balancing their workloads and improving patient satisfaction by providing more focused care from the team.

“The positive impact on chief nursing officers and their teams is undeniable,” said David Jastrow with Panda Health. “Rather than weighing the financial aspect, they are more interested in how virtual nursing can effectively address labor shortages and burnout. Nurses, who make up the vital pillars of our healthcare system, are largely feeling stressed and exhausted, while even considering leaving their current positions. This calls for a significant change.”

Virtual nursing offers a solution by handling administrative tasks like patient admission, health history, medication records, and discharge planning. It provides bedside nurses with more hands-on time with patients. Besides, it offers flexibility, allowing those desiring less physical demands or onsite presence to continue providing care.

Introduced only recently, the adoption rate of virtual nursing solutions is projected to surge from 13% last year to an impressive 31% this year. As stated by Jastrow, “Virtual nurses are fast becoming a critical part of the modern-care system, ensuring high-quality patient experience. If the solution could uplift both patient and nurse satisfaction, that’s a true win-win ROI.”
