Watch: CIC launches investigation into Aetna patient practices
Former Aetna medical director for Southern California, Dr. Jay Ken Linuma, admitted under-oath that he never reviewed patient records during the approval process for coverage. The California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, was furious after CNN read the court transcript to him. The California Insurance Commission has launched an investigation into Aetna. “If the health insurer is making decisions to deny coverage without a physician actually ever reviewing medical records, that’s of significant concern to me as insurance commissioner in California — and potentially a violation of law,” Dave Jones said to CNN. Aetna, the third largest insurance company in the country, told CNN they looked forward to “explaining our clinical review process” to Commissioner Dave Jones. Have you been denied coverage by Aetna?
