Vicoustic Brings Studio Quality to Non-Traditional Audio Spaces with New Product Line

Joao Ferreira, Acoustic Consultant for Vicoustic, was kind enough to talk with the MarketScale team at InfoComm 2018 recently. Ferreira and Vicoustic were on site with their U.S. distributor, Audio Plus Services, to showcase their latest products and some veteran products as well. Ferreira explained that Vicoustic started as an acoustic products manufacturer 11 year ago, mainly serving the pro audio business, so their clientele was composted of recording studios, home cinemas, and broadcast facilities. They are now exploring the commercial side of business and attempting to attract public spaces such as restaurants, office buildings, and houses of worship.

For many years, the company used a polyurethane foam-based product with wood and fire-resistant fabric for the main components, but for the commercial end they have found a raw material made 60 percent of recycled plastic bottles that has become their new core material called PET. They are now manipulating this raw material to create the different acoustical, primarily absorption products they had on display.

In addition, Ferreira spoke about their VMT technology, which allows Viscoustic to print directly on panels and change the look of the acoustic product. They can offer 48 different design combinations and can custom print with logos or other specific company needs. The Vicloud is the suspended element used for ceilings of public spaces and come in various shapes and colors. Vicoustic’s plastic and fabric version is easy to assemble and can be installed within minutes and the room’s occupants are able to see the acoustic effects immediately. And of course, they offer other PET-based products like wallpaper, available in 15 fabric colors, with an acoustic purpose and a high frequency absorption ability.

With regard to the direction of the technology in this industry, Ferreira stated that his company is focusing on responding to the concerns of consumers in various rooms that need quality acoustics. This need to satisfy a broader range of clients where they saw a need sparked their desire to develop more commercial products.
