Watch: Americans are becoming homebodies, and that means big energy savings
Researchers say that the increase in online shopping, video streaming, and employees working from home have turned Americans into homebodies. Surveys show Americans spending a full 8 days more at home, with those 18-24 spending 70% more time at home than others. These trends have implications for energy, where usage is down by around 1,000 bTU in transportation and non-residential spaces. Though researchers can’t quite explain the shift, they’re interested in widening their perspective soon to find definite answers.
