School Safety Today: School Security Best Practices: Digital Floor Plan Mapping

Joey Wahler interviews Michael Rodgers, founder and CEO of the Critical Response Group (CRG). CRG and Raptor Technologies are working together to provide efficient protection for first responders in schools through digital floor plan mapping technology. In addition to the technology’s usefulness school safety protocols, CRG also provides this technology to businesses, hospitals, and many other important infrastructures.

Rodgers shares how his experience from the military and overall personal life has led to his passion for developing public safety practices for the community. Rodgers and CRG integrates lessons he has learned from his work overseas, applying it to school safety protocols across the country.

Data consisting of imagery of buildings, building changes over the years, and floor plans often are not labeled properly, making it hard to communicate in emergency situations. Rodgers aims to bridge the gap to update the data among facilities. Additionally, schools typically keep safety protocols within local enforcements, while in some scenarios, other jurisdictions play a role in emergency response. Rodgers aims to expand protocols to all jurisdictions.

Critical Response Group takes charge in creation of the mapping files and Raptor Technologies understands the safety and security needs of the schools. Rodgers refers to Raptor Technologies as the “delivery mechanism of the mapping data into the school district” Furthermore, CRG is adamant on working closely with public safety professionals to assess what tools they have deployed.

The combined approached allows for consistency in data retrieval and a safe approach to keeping buildings safe. Digital mapping allows a clear, easy to use map, to enable consistent communication for all personnel.

Raptor’s solutions for emergency management, mobile panic button, drill management, and reunification can help schools prepare and respond to emergency situations of all kinds. CRG’s digital floor plan mapping is a valuable tool for first responders when seconds count during emergency response.
