Listen: Turning Pre-Production into a Video Game with Will Flavin of Flavin Lighting

Will Flavin first fell in love with stage lighting during an elementary school field trip, where he spent more time looking up in awe of the huge lighting rig than he spent watching the show. Now, the 21-year-old admits he’s ruined for all live shows because his fascination persists. “There’s something about a live show that always has had my attention,” Flavin said.

Flavin got his first job in lighting right out of high school, skipped college and has never looked back. He launched his own company Flavin Lighting in Nashville, where he’s worked with musical artists, corporate shows and large-scale conferences. Being a young guy on the block, Flavin keeps track of the emerging technology available for stagecraft, and came on the podcast to discuss the exciting possibilities he sees, including video game-inspired virtual reality use for both designers pre-production and pitching clients before a single light is rigged.
