The Last Mile: E-Mopeds Find the Spotlight in Micro-Mobility

Moritz Meenen, Co-founder and CEO of ElectricFeel, sat in with host Shelby Skrhak to discuss the latest in shared electric mobility. Meenen’s company is a shared electric mobility software platform based in Europe helping companies launch and scale shared electric mobility vehicles.
With Segway’s new launch of their electric moped, it was perfect timing to grab Meenen’s thoughts on his vision for the e-mobility movement.

Meenen sees mobility as broken in many cities, with non-stop traffic jams, pollution and noise. He founded ElectricFeel with the intent of fixing these mobility issues.

“Electric mobility is an absolute no-brainer to help alleviate these problems that we have in urban mobility right now,” Meenen said.

But, even though electric mobility isn’t a new invention, it has not overtaken gas engines, yet, and it’s that desire to change the conversation and the way people get from A to B that fuels Meenan’s passion.

ElectricFeel began with bike-sharing. Soon, Meenen’s company evolved to include e-bikes, allowing riders to move around quickly without expending lots of energy.

“And then, when you think of the e-moped, the e-moped allows you to cover more distance than the e-bike is useful for,” Meenen said. “So, it’s pretty much in between the car and the e-bike.”

Meenen can’t wait to see how the addition of the e-moped flourishes in the marketplace.

Since Meenen co-founded ElectricFeel in 2012, technology changes and increased adoption of electric mobility sharing make the landscape today an exciting place of opportunity. But with an expanded market comes increased expectation from the ride-sharing customer base. Meenen said that today’s ride sharers want quality from e-mobility products.

“There’s so [many] high-quality offerings in the market right now, and most people have tried it before. They know the use case, their expectations are super high, and I think it’s good,” he said. “This shows that the market has grown up, and these sharing systems are here to stay.”
