Solar and Roof Care Solutions from New Columbia Solar and Fortis

Maintaining a building’s roof and solar system is a team effort, which is why Fortis and New Columbia Solar teamed up in the DC area to provide a complete solution for building owners.

Building owners need the proper care and maintenance to get the most out of their roofing and solar systems. Dave Schupmann, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Fortis, and Ken Stadlin, Senior Leader with the Business Development Team at New Columbia Solar, shared their insights for assessing roofs, adding solar and keeping these systems running trouble-free.

“From a roofing standpoint, we want to work with a good, solid substrate, something that’s been maintained, and something that doesn’t necessarily have to come off,” Schupmann said. “We can recondition the roof and give it a long-term warranty, but a roof that is a good solid foundation to accept the solar.”

“We’re looking to create solar deals that deliver value for our customers,” Standlin said. “They are interested in what solar can do from an environmental perspective, from a sense of harvesting the sunlight that’s already hitting the roof, but we have to design a deal that works for the customer that creates some economic value. We also need to make sure we can tailor what we want to build in terms of a solar array to fit into their existing building and their roofing system.”
