Meet Dasha McBride: From Education to Entrepreneurship

Facing the Unknown with a Smile

Dasha kicked off by recalling her first “big girl” job at the Birmingham Education Foundation, describing it as an adventure akin to being “thrown into the deep end.” Despite having no formal background in education, Dasha found herself developing and piloting elementary education programs. Her view on the challenge? “I don’t know what that is, but I’ll Google it,” Dasha quipped, emphasizing her willingness to plunge into unfamiliar territories head-first.

First Steps in Entrepreneurship

Dasha started her first major role at the Birmingham Education Foundation, developing and pilot testing elementary school programming. Despite being thrown into an unfamiliar domain, Dasha rose to the challenge, committing her enthusiasm and energy to pilot a program that focused on executive functioning and social-emotional learning in elementary schools.

This served as her introduction to the work world, where she discovered her passion for children’s education and realized the depth of her dedication to her work.

Fusion of Media and Education

The experience led her to merge her skills in education and media creation, setting the stage for her involvement with high-profile clients such as Amazon and HubSpot. Particularly noteworthy is Dasha’s involvement with Amazon’s Black Employee Network (BEN), where she played a crucial role in crafting meaningful stories and initiating programs to serve Amazon’s Black community.

Taking the AI Bull by its Horns

At HubSpot, while juggling a demanding master’s program in digital marketing, Dasha jumped at an opportunity to work with AI. Working with clients to build AI-augmented marketing campaigns, she sees a direct connection in making her day-to-day role at MarketScale more efficient: a true testimony to her never-ending drive for knowledge and improvement.

One of the most rewarding experiences, Dasha admits, was her YouTube channel dedicated to the celebration of natural hair. She humorously narrates her transition from having chemically straightened hair to embracing her natural curls, eventually inspiring other women towards self-acceptance.

Triumphing over Trials

True to her candid spirit, Dasha didn’t shy away from discussing her hard times. After a sudden layoff and initial struggles in her job hunt, Dasha described a poignant moment: the joy over finding $5 in a random wallet highlighting her financial struggle. Yet, she bounced back to a rewarding role via professional connections, underscoring the importance of networking.

In a heartfelt message to her younger self, Dasha shares: “Be your authentic self and live for yourself instead of living for other people.”

Dasha’s journey of transformation—for herself and the communities she serves—continues to inspire. From navigating the education space to pushing boundaries in entrepreneurship, she’s a testament to the power of authenticity, resilience, and relentless determination in the face of challenges.
