Printing a Bold Future: DigiTech’s Innovation Triumph Over COVID Challenges

COVID shook things up for many companies, and DigiTech is no exception, having to adapt to a new world that could have easily brought trouble for the company. Thankfully, DigiTech spun the bad into good which benefited them in the long run. Gabrielle Bejarano sat down to talk with DigiTech President Patric Coldewey about his company, how they got through COVID, and what makes their printers unique.

COVID got in the way of things progressing for DigiTech but Patric says they made the best of it. “Instead of just, like, sitting there and going home, and not really being able to do anything or feel like we were helpless or whatever, we tried solving problems.” Solving these problems meant diving into their software, improving the next generation of their electronics, and dealing with the labor shortage. This last point in particular was tricky, but it led to the company using automation to help their workflow, which ended up being a major factor in their success. To quote Patric, “Automation is trying to get more out of the people that you have.”

While it’s been a rough couple of years, DigiTech has managed to make the best out of it, which includes being able to compete comfortably with the big names in printer technology. “2020 was supposed to be a big year, it ended up not being that year, and our 2022 was actually where are 2020 was,” says Patric. “So we kind of switched on that, it took us a couple of years longer, but we fine-tuned things and we used the time to develop our name and the reputation in the industry.”
