How Can the Entertainment Industry Find More Use Cases for Projection Mapping?

 

The Voice of B2B, Daniel Litwin, sat down with  Joe Conover, Lead of Strategic Development & Initiatives of Live Entertainment/Events/Stadiums for Panasonic, to discuss how the entertainment industry can find socially distanced use cases for projectors and projection mapping technology.

As COVID cases continue to rise, live entertainment professionals and venues are flexing to create immersive experiences. Monetizing an experience is the name of the game in this industry. The end goal for a live entertainment business is to create the most unique and memorable experience possible for the customer. The consumer expectation of a high-quality experience has shifted away from live entertainment since COVID.

At Panasonic, the company leverages projection and projection mapping technology as a creative way to rethink live entertainment. Projection has continued to grow despite the pandemic. Panasonic’s state of the art projections has been refined as seen in the Olympics over time.

Rental and staging markets have not been utilized, but Panasonic has used this as an opportunity to rethink remote entertainment, classroom teaching and any virtual experience. Downscaling large projections has been a creative challenge and new technology is emerging because of it.

As society continues to adjust to a new normal, the live entertainment industry continues to evolve to meet it. Companies look at ways to provide entertainment in a safe and socially distant fashion, and technology is key. 

This type of technology can deliver safe experiences in a number of ways. For example, outdoor holiday festivals utilizing projectors to display stunning visuals, outdoor artist installations using immersive outdoor visual display that can be viewed from afar, and drive-in movie screenings utilizing devices that are compact and powerful.

Panasonic is reimagining the live entertainment industry and seeing ways that AV technology like projectors and projection mapping can be improved to create new and exciting immersive entertainment.
