UPDATE: Reverchon Ballpark in Dallas Gets Another Second Chance

Reverchon Park in Dallas has been a local sports staple for 100 years, and the famous ballpark has certainly seen its share of high and low points over the years. The park has been a staple in the community since its inception.

The legendary field has been the focus of a renovation campaign over the last number of years. Challenges have abounded during the park’s rejuvenation efforts, but it’s toughest challenge may be its most recent. The City of Dallas now has a decision to make on whether or not it will move forward with the most recent plan to refresh the park. This decision means not only a great deal to the city, but to me personally.

For context, I have been playing ball there since 1975. I joined doctors and volunteers to build the playground in 2005 with Pauline Medrano. I lobbied for bond money promised to the field way back when Laura Miller was the Mayor of Dallas. And I worked on most of the Reverchon Roundup park cleanups, ran off unsavory characters, battled poison Ivy and used syringes and reclaimed the park.

I just love the park. I’m not looking for any special treatment or share in activities. I just want to play ball and continue to do philanthropic work. Watch the video above for some of my additional thoughts on the field’s legacy and its current state.
