Tesla Racing Series Gets Green Light from FIA

Announced back in 2016, the first all-Tesla Racing Circuit was finally approved by the FIA, the international governing body of motorsports. The Electric Production Car Series will feature only the Tesla Model S P100D. The cars are about 1,100 pounds lighter and tuned to make 778 hp and 734 lb-ft of torque, which enables them to hit 60 mph in 2.1 seconds.
Up to 20 competitors will race through three qualifying rounds, including a 37-mile day race, and a second race in the evening. Drifting will also be featured. For extra points, Electric GT says two finishers and two fan-voted favorites will compete in a head-to-head drifting challenge.
“This is such an exciting day for us as we confirm that the Electric Production Car Series has been officially sanctioned by the FIA,” says Electric GT CEO Mark Gemmell. “We respect the FIA and we are honored to have their support ahead of our inaugural season. We are also pleased to officially publish the sporting regulations for the Electric Production Car Series. We have put a lot of time into refining the regulations to allow for competitive and thrilling racing.”[1]
The race has no official date yet.
