How Eye 2 Eye Global is Changing the Cosmetics Industry

On this episode of Careers on the Move, Host Tyler Kern talked with Chelsea Heyward, Director of Marketing and Global Relations at Eye 2 Eye Global, which was founded to help beauty brands access quality, competitively priced, natural ingredients from Africa while improving access and quality of life for African suppliers and farmers.

Heyward ended up at Eye 2 Eye through a round-a-bout way. Her doctorate focused on organizational change and leadership, and her studies focused on athlete activism. This eventually led her to Eye 2 eye Global, as she worked with a couple of athletes who wanted to impact the beauty and cosmetics world.

“The work that I do in my sports world is about that impact and finding a deeper level of impact, which has contributed to here at Eye 2 Eye, where we’re trying to focus on access, ownership, and quality for communities of color,” Heyward said.

Coincidentally, Heyward started talking with Eye 2 Eye in February 2020, just before the world was put on hold. She recognized she wanted to have a more profound impact in this space “just because of how much black individuals, and individuals of color, make up the ethnic and beauty care market versus how much they are in ownership,” Heyward said.

When George Floyd’s murder caused nationwide civil strife, the world sort of opened up to them, according to Heyward. Through their products, they try to provide access and opportunities to their community while also providing products that are high quality.
