The transportation industry may be in for an exciting 2020, but it may have very little to do with cars, trains and buses.

Micromobility has made its presence known in the last two years, and there is still plenty of room to grow. Dockless scooters are among the most prominent developments in transportation recently, and they are already being used in ways outside of their original intent.

“The business model is also evolving,” Segway Ninebot Group VP of Global Development Tony Ho said. “Even though the majority of them (dockless scooters) have some kind of app that come with it, they could be monthly rental or could be lease to own.”

Ho discussed with Daniel Litwin what the next year might look like for dockless scooters and other last-mile transportation services.
