10 Minutes to a Better Building: A Guide for Choosing the Right Parts & Supplies Partner

Although he’s quite the busy man, Vince Dawson, General Manager at Boland Supply, found 10 minutes to spare, and that’s precisely the time needed to help host Tyler Kern with some tips and insights on choosing the right parts and supplies partner.

“I think the best reason for choosing the right supplier is you can improve your location or business operation through service, minimizing downtime or discomfort within a building,” Dawson said. “Additionally, the right supplier will recommend or offer suggestions to maximize the efficiency of the equipment, as well as the space.”

And knowing that having a collaborative partnership and expertise is advantageous, what should a business look for to find that right supplier? Dawson said a business must identify their needs and what is most vital for them and their building or business before beginning their search.

“Is that payment terms, shipping, delivery, quality, communication, lead times? Or it could be all of them,” Dawson said. The next step is to research prospective suppliers, get references, and not be afraid to ask questions.

Another tip Dawson provided on the parts front was directed at critical facilities. “If you’re operating a critical facility or tasked with maintaining one, I would not be able to stress enough the importance of having parts on hand,” Dawson said. “No one likes to spend money upfront, but if you have a critical facility, that is one of the most important things you can do.”
