College Students and Alumni Looking for Career Assistance? Now There’s a Student Playbook to Guide Them.

With the specter of unemployment and underemployment looming large over recent graduates, the topic of career success during and post-college has never been more pressing. The changing nature of work and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have only amplified these concerns. The stakes are high, with more than 50% of recent college graduates being underemployed and unable to utilize their skills and knowledge fully. It is imperative with today’s challenges that students need to prepare for life outside of college.

What, then, can colleges and universities do to ensure their students aren’t just qualified but also adequately prepared for the professional world in an ever-changing context? A student playbook may come in handy.

On this episode of The Future of Education, host Michael B. Horn looks at this pressing issue. His guest is Devin Schain, CEO and Founder of Student Playbook, a company dedicated to equipping students with the tools they need to navigate their career journey and for college alumni to gain strategic career insight, advice, and networking.

Topics discussed include:

  • Schain’s journey into entrepreneurship and education and how his experiences have informed the mission of Student Playbook
  • The challenges facing recent college graduates in the job market, from underemployment to a lack of resources and experience
  • The innovative approach of Student Playbook in connecting students and alumni with potential employers and the unique advantages it provides over traditional job boards

“Many graduates are under-resourced and underserved,” Schain said. “I think there’s a misunderstanding that just because you graduate from college, you are not under-resourced, and that’s not the case.”

Devin Schain is an entrepreneur and education advocate with a rich background in creating and leading successful companies. After starting his entrepreneurship journey in college, Schain went on to incubate and lead both profit and non-profit businesses. With Student Playbook, he hopes to address the career challenges facing today’s students and alums and provide them with a resource for lifelong professional development.
