Refrigerated containers known as “reefers” can keep food fresh for more than a month. As demand for fresh food skyrockets, companies are looking for economic cold shipping options. Refrigerated boxes make up 7% of total container volumes, and demand increased by 5% to 6% in the last five years.

Containers including reefers move about $4 trillion worth of cargo annually. Countries like Denmark would see fresh fruits only 3 months out the year, but that’s changing due to the “Reefers“.

And it’s not stopping with food- other exports like flowers are able to ship quicker with less damage loss due to cooler packaging temperatures.
