Business Casual: Google’s Watching – Alphabet, Inc. Facing Privacy Lawsuit
Google is facing a hefty lawsuit – three individuals in California have hit Alphabet, Inc. with a class action lawsuit worth $5 billion, alleging that the company has tracked sensitive personal browsing information even while users were engaged in “Incognito” browsing.
The complaint asserts that, through Google Analytics, Good Ad Manager and more, Google is “(engaging) in covert and unauthorized data collection from virtually every American with a computer or phone.”
So, what implications does this lawsuit have for the way the internet – and particularly user data – is managed and collected? Even if nothing is technically illegal, do companies have an obligation to be more transparent? How can users do more to protect themselves and their data?
On this Business Casual snippet, hosts Daniel Litwin, Tyler Kern and Taylor Bagley explore these complicated questions and the future of online privacy.
