Watch: Bentley University Arena Named Most Environmentally Sustainable in U.S.

A new multipurpose arena at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. has been named the most environmentally sustainable in the nation by the U.S. Green Building Council. Earning a LEED Platinum certification, the arena boasts a 504 kilowatt rooftop solar array that will generate 40 percent of the building’s annual electricity needs.

At least 50% of wood used in the building is sourced from forests with certified sustainable forestry practices. The arena also uses technology that captures heat generated from the rink’s ice-making equipment to heat water throughout the building.

The 76,000-square-foot building, named The Bentley Arena, cost a reported $45 million to build.
