Laura Spence

K-12 STEM Specialist Pinellas County School District

Laura Spence serves as the K-12 STEM Specialist for the Pinellas County School District, FL. She is an experienced STEM leader with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry at both the domestic and international levels since 2001. She has established 270 after school STEM Academies in her district which impact 230 teachers and 5,000+ students on a yearly basis. Spence has written and been awarded multiple grants for a total amount of $1,000,000 to support this program.

She is a strong professional who provides keynote speeches on topics such as STEM education, developing district-wide STEM programs, failure as a platform for success, women in STEM and establishing STEM partnerships between districts and businesses. Skilled in STEM teacher professional development/staff training (U.S. & Abroad), K-12 STEM/STEAM, K-12 education, educational technology, science, and curriculum development.

In addition to her role with the district, Spence also hosts an award-winning STEM television series, WPDS Ch14 Science Rocks Pinellas that can be found on YouTube, which highlights STEM concepts and events while also maintaining the district STEM website http://www.pcsb.org/STEM.
