On a Roll: A Look at Company Culture at Worthen Industries

Worthen Industries’ mission is to be an innovative partner to their family, produce endless solutions, enduring sustainability, go above and beyond in customer service, and ensure employee wellness and safety.

And family is an essential value for Worthen because, in their culture, employees are family. Just ask Barbara Strickland, retired Product Development Manager from Worthen Industries, Inc. Her employment with Worthen lasted 47 years. Strickland shared her experiences and thoughts about Worthen’s culture with Steve Adams, Business Manager, Foam Fabricating Adhesives Group at Worthen Industries, and host Tyler Kern.

Strickland began her post-college career with Worthen in 1971 as a quality control technician. “Because Worthen is very open to internal promotion, they allowed me to go further than that. I moved up to a chemist in the footwear industry,” Stickland said. Over the years, Worthen tapped Strickland’s chemistry services throughout various areas within the company. “The nice thing about all of this is you do feel like you’re part of a family, and you can count on everybody else to help you along.”

Worthen’s culture of investing in their employees provided Strickland with a long-lasting career with a single employer. They provided educational opportunities for her and allowed Stickland to form relationships with their customers to understand their problems better and solve their challenges. “We work together to create successful products and help our customers and help each other in the process,” Adams said. And that’s what family at Worthen is all about.
