How to Leverage IoT Solutions While Remaining Human-Centric

On this episode of Retail Refined with host Melissa Gonzalez, Lenovo Design Strategy Leader – Commercial IoT Group Rebecca Horton dove into her mission to help industries power intelligent transformations without losing sight of companies’ ability to be human-centric and purpose-driven.

The Commercial IoT Group at Lenovo is, as Horton puts it, really a start-up within the company.

“We make it easier for businesses to leverage the power of IoT without getting kind of hooked into the jargon of what IoT is about,” she said. “It’s less the hype and more the reality of the power that can come through leveraging IoT solutions.”

As the team’s Design Strategy Leader, Horton’s role is to help her team understand the businesses that Lenovo is trying to serve and elevate through its solutions.

The duo also discussed striking that balance between data-driven and human-driven and Horton’s role as an “intrapreneur” encouraging innovation and growth at Lenovo.

“To me, being an entrepreneur, as well as an intrapreneur, is about being able to cast a vision and also activate that compelling vision for the future,” Horton said. “When I think of examples of others who have been great entrepreneurs, they’re always great storytellers. They get people hooked into the story that they’re telling about the future.”

Physical Retail’s Next Infrastructure Layer: Item-Level Intelligence with Radar
June 4, 2026

Physical retail is under pressure to become as measurable and responsive as e-commerce.
